Story 6: The Whispering Mirror

In the quiet town of Hollow Glen, there was a legend about a mirror—a mirror that could reveal the deepest secrets of anyone who dared look into it. Most people dismissed it as just another ghost story, but when Emma inherited her grandmother’s house, she found the mirror tucked away in the attic, covered in dust and hidden behind old boxes.

The mirror was ornate, with intricate carvings along the edges, and the glass seemed to shimmer even in the dim light. Curious, Emma wiped away the dust and stood before it. But what she saw wasn’t just her reflection. Behind her, a shadow moved—something was standing just out of sight.

. . .

Emma spun around, but the room was empty. Her heart raced as she turned back to the mirror. The shadow was still there, standing just behind her reflection, barely visible but unmistakably present. It whispered her name.

The whispers grew louder as the days passed. Emma tried to ignore it, but every time she walked by the mirror, the voice beckoned. It was as if the mirror wasn’t just showing her a reflection—it was peering into her soul. It knew things about her that no one else did, things she had never spoken out loud.

Desperate for answers, Emma researched the mirror’s history and discovered that it had once belonged to a family that had mysteriously disappeared. According to the legend, the mirror didn’t just reveal secrets—it stole them, trapping those who looked too closely within its glass forever.

. . .

Emma knew she had to destroy it. But as she raised the hammer, the voice from the mirror pleaded with her.

“Don’t,” it whispered. “You’re not done yet.”

Her hand trembled. Was the mirror controlling her, or was it trying to show her something she wasn’t ready to see? In the reflection, the shadow grew clearer, more defined. It looked just like her—but older, wiser, and filled with a sadness that pierced through her.

Before she could act, the mirror cracked, and the shadow vanished. Emma’s reflection returned, but something was different. The secrets the mirror had stolen were hers again, but they came with a price—a glimpse of the future she could never unsee.
